There are several experts in the area of author marketing who are advising authors to promote their work by leaving comments on other author’s blogs.
Leaving comments on other people’s blogs is a GREAT marketing tactic for authors. I call it “leaving a breadcrumb trail” back to your author website because the goal is for the other person’s blog’s readers to see your pithy comment and want to learn MORE about you and your writing.
When you leave a pithy comment on a blog – the blog’s visitor clicks on your name in the comment, which if you filled out the URL box when you left the comment will lead to your website.
The question is… what will those visitors see when they get to YOUR website.
Going out and promoting your website is exactly what you should be doing as an author… the question is, what will visitors find when they get to your website?
Will those new potential book buyers find fresh, relevant content when they arrive at your website?
Will those people who found your blog comments interesting find your website equally engaging?
People really do judge a book by its cover… and before they even SEE your book’s cover, they may be seeing your website. It goes to follow that those visitors will judge your book by your website.
So before you go out and start promoting your book by posting comments on other people’s blogs… make sure your website is ready for company. Is the content current? Does it look professional? Do all the links work?
Promoting your book by commenting on other people’s blogs is a GREAT marketing tactic… just make sure that the website you’re using to sell your book is ready to do its job.
