BookLocker Files Class Action Lawsuit Against Amazon.com
According to a press release issues by Angela Hoy, BookLocker has filed a class action lawsuit against Amazon.com in response to Amazon’s recent attempts to force all publishers using Print on Demand (POD) technology to pay Amazon to print their books. Read all about this story here.
Angela’s biggest complaint with Amazon’s BookSurge POD service has always revolved around issues of quality when it comes to BookSurge’s product.
The BookSurge has a reputation for producing poor quality books. Complaints have ranged from producing books with pages that literally fall out of the book to upside-down pages, off center pages and pages printed at a definite “angle.
This is the “source” of the uproar as far as Angela is concerned. This is not a better way of delivering books, this is not a more efficient way of delivering books.
To put this into a word picture EVERYONE can understand, imagine if a giant retailer began refusing to accept checks, check cards or credit cards from any bank except for those of it’s own acquired bank. You’d probably say, “HEY! That sucks!!”
Well, what if you had done business with the acquired bank in the past and hadn’t been treated well. Maybe they bounced your checks… maybe the clerks were rude… or maybe their hours were awful… but in a free economy, you had decided NOT to do business with the evil acquired bank based on your experience.
That’s even worse. Now take it a step further… and imagine that this move will hurt the THOUSANDS of people who’ve placed their trust in you because their products can’t be sold through the giant retailer.
Well, Amazon is the giant retailer… and it’s not a bank but rather a POD publishing company in this mix!
According to Angela,
If a publisher pays Amazon to print their books, their reputation could suffer due to any possible BookSurge quality problems with that publisher’s book.
She goes further….in ARE YOU AFFECTED?
According to Amazon’s public statement, ALL POD books will be affected. If you are a POD publisher (this includes self-published authors who publish their own POD books through a printer), or a traditional publisher using POD technology for some or all your books, and would like more information, please contact:
